Kanye West documentary coming to Netflix

Netflix has reportedly acquired a documentary series spanning over two decades of Kanye West’s life and work.

According to Billboard, the documentary, which is yet to be titled, is scheduled to hit the streaming platform later in the year.

Billboard added that Netflix paid $30 million for the documentary — a price tag that was immediately countered by a source who told Variety was “inaccurate”.

The project will chronicle the ‘Ye’ crooner’s life for the past 21 years and is expected to feature footage from the rapper’s failed presidential campaign last year, rise through the fashion industry, and the death of Donda West, his mother.

Clarence Simmons and Chike Ozah, prominent music producing duo better known as Coodie and Chike, will be helming the project with TIME Studios.

It is understood that the duo produced the third version of the ‘Jesus Walks’ visuals as well as ‘Through the Wire’.

Netflix is, however, yet to comment on the acquisition.

West has established himself as a household name in the global music industry with strings of hit projects, awards, and recognition.

He has also left tongues wagging on numerous occasions for his controversial remarks.

The 43-year-old was recently rumoured to be the richest black man in the United States with an estimated net worth of $6.6 billion.

Forbes magazine, however, dismissed the claim, explaining that the singer is worth “less than one-third of the $6.6 billion or $1.8 billion.”

The spotlight has also continued to beam on West over his pending divorce from Kim Kadarshian, his wife.
