Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan Breaks World Record At World Athletics Championships

Tobi Amusan broke the 100m hurdles world record with a stunning semi-final time of 12.12 seconds – before taking gold at the World Athletics Championships in Eugene, Oregon.

The 25-year-old won the final in a wind-assisted time of 12.06s better than the 12.12s she ran in the semis. The time was later ruled ineligible as the wind speed exceeded the legal limit.

The previous record of 12.20 was set in 2016 by American Kendra Harrison.

Amusan who is the current Commonwealth Champion beat Jamaica’s Britany Anderson who finished second and Olympic Champion from Cuba, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn who came third.

Amusan said: “I believe in my abilities but I was not expecting a world record at these championships.

“I wanted to get out and go. I did what I had to do.”
