U-20 WWC: Falconets going for victory against Canada – Danjuma

Falconets head coach, Chris Danjuma says his side will go all out for a win against Canada despite the inconsequential nature of the game.

Danjuma’s side are already through to the quarter-finals after winning their opening two games against France and Korea Republic at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Costa Rica.

The West Africans will only play for pride when they take on Canada in their Group C game at the Estadio Alajuela Morera Soto.

The game will kick-off at 8pm Costa Rica time on Wednesday (3am Thursday morning in Nigeria).

Danjuma stated that the team wants to maintain the same winning spirit going to the knockout stages of the competition.

“We would like to make it three wins out of three to maintain a great mental state –the winning mentality. If we are used to winning, it would be difficult for any team to bring us down.

“It would be a mistake to reduce our pace and zest simply because we have qualified for the quarter-finals. The best way to do it, always, is to consider each match as a task that must be accomplished and not slow down. We will still meet tougher teams ahead and the winning mentality is what will sustain us,” Danjuma told NFF.com

Canada is without a win in the competition, having lost to Korea Republic and France.

For the North Americans to sneak through, they would have to achieve a high-score win against Nigeria, and hope that either France or Korea Republic mutilate the other in the other Group C fixture.
