Bayelsa State Ministry Of Health Confirms 13 Cases Of Monkeypox

The Bayelsa State Ministry of Health has confirmed the outbreak of monkeypox in the state, saying so far about 13 persons have been infected by the disease.

The Director of Public Health in the state Ministry of Health, Dr Jones Stow, revealed that the viral disease is more prevalent in males than females.

Stow stated that monkeypox as a viral animal disease is an infection when transmitted from the products of animals or contaminated surfaces to humans causes skin rashes which develop into bigger sizes of blisters particularly on the face region, resulting in scars on the face.

He also highlighted that at the emergence of the disease in the country, the preventive measures were; proper handling of food while cooking; fumigation, and setting death traps for rodents which are major carriers of the disease.

Stow disclosed that the state government is working assiduously to mitigate the spread of viral disease in the state.
