[PHOTOS] Meet All The ‘Oloris’ Of The Ooni Of Ife

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi went on a marriage spree in September 2022 which caught the surprise of many even though it is a known fact that he is entitled to have many ‘Oloris’.

Prior to that time, He had two failed marriages. The first was Olori Zainab Wuraola, who left her marriage in December 2021, and Olori Silekunola Naomi, the mother of Prince Tadenikawo Ogunwusi, who left in December 2021.

The name “Olori” in Yorubaland refers to the queen or wife of a traditional Yoruba king known as the Oba.  As a result, “Olori” translates as “the one who is on or over the throne.”

The Olori is an important figure in the Yoruba royal court and plays an important part in the monarchy’s affairs. She is the Oba’s closest companion and counselor, and she is the palace’s prominent female figure.

The Olori is in charge of assisting and supporting the Oba in many ceremonial, social, and administrative activities. The Olori frequently has her own court and servants, and she is held in high regard and honor in Yoruba society.
