21 year-old Brazilian beauty queen dies during surgery

A Brazilian beauty queen died while she underwent surgery to remove a tumor in her abdomen.

Vanessa Soares, 21, passed away Wednesday morning during her emergency procedure at Roraima General Hospital in Boa Vista, Roraima.

A cousin of Soares, according to news outlet G1, said that the three-time beauty pageant winner was at her home when she felt pain in her abdominal area Tuesday night and visited the Cosme Silva Emergency Room.

Soares was transferred to Roraima General Hospital, where additional testing detected the tumor near her liver.

According to the Roraima Health Department, Soares ‘had a very serious pattern of hypotension and hemorrhage caused by abdominal tumors.’

‘Despite all the efforts of the medical team, the young woman did not withstand and died at dawn on Wednesday,’ the Roraima Health Department added.

Soares was recognized as Miss Rorainópolis in 2016 and 2020. She also won the Miss Teen Roraima pageant in 2018.

She was scheduled to be buried Thursday in the rural city of Rorainópolis, where her parents live.

‘She has always been an admirable, loving, captivating, friendly girl. Beautiful inside and out,’ her brother Matheus Soares wrote on his Instagram account next to a photo of the siblings hugging. ‘She is gone, but she is kept in my heart.’

Soares’ musician friend, Gustavo Kisney, said that she ‘showed that we should always smile and love, because you never know when the last hug and the last message is.’

Soares was a nursing student at Estácio College.

‘May God comfort you all in this moment of pain and consternation,’ the school said in a statement. ‘At this difficult time, receive and embrace of affection and solidarity.’
