We’re fully prepared to conduct supplementary polls, says INEC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it
is fully prepared for the supplementary elections on April 15.

The commission announced winners in the federal legislative,
governorship, and state house of assembly elections held on February 25 and
March 18.

However, the electoral umpire fixed supplementary polls for
the governorship in Adamawa and Kebbi states, five senatorial districts, and 31
federal and 58 state assembly constituencies where elections were suspended or
declared inconclusive.

Speaking  on Friday, Rotimi Oyekanmi, chief
press secretary to the INEC chairman, said the commission was prepared to
conduct the supplementary polls.

Oyekanmi called on parties and stakeholders to allow the
elections to hold peacefully.

“As promised, the commission has already published on its
website a comprehensive list of polling units by state, local government,
registration area, registered voters, and PVCs collected,” he said.

“The commission is fully prepared for the elections. The
bimodal voter accreditation system (BVAS) will be deployed for accreditation as
usual and we appeal to all political parties, their candidates, and
stakeholders to allow the elections to hold unhindered.

 “Election is not a war.
It is given that someone will win. Contestants who lose in an election should
imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship and try again next time. This is what
democracy is all about.”
