22 Year-Old Woman Killed In Christmas Day Horror Car Crash

A woman has died in a Christmas Day horror crash involving a car police had tried to stop moments earlier.

The tragedy happened shortly after 3.45am today in Edgware, London.

In a statement police said that officers had indicated for a car to stop, but it drove off. There was no chase, the statement continued.

A short time after it was involved in a crash involving another car and a lamppost.

A 22-year-old woman in the second car was treated at the scene, but tragically medics were unable to save her life. A man in the same car as her suffered head injuries, but these are not believed to be serious.

The occupants of the car police had tried to stop ran away, the Met said in a statement. A 29-year-old man was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.

The Met said: “At approximately 03:45hrs on Sunday, 25 December officers on patrol in a marked vehicle indicated for a car to stop in the vicinity of Hendon Way, NW2.

“The vehicle drove off from police. There was no pursuit.

“A short time later police were informed the same car had been involved in a collision with another car and a lamppost further along Hendon Way, NW4 at the Brent Cross Flyover.

“The occupants of the car that did not stop for police fled the scene on foot.

“The passenger of the second car – a 22-year-old woman – suffered injuries. London Ambulance Service attended but despite the best efforts of paramedics, she died at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed.”
